Discussion regarding Staffing/Budget Cuts:

Review of current status
Jeff shared the current staffing numbers and some district recommended cuts

Discussion of Alternatives

Jeff shared a chart with the 3 houses and we looked at the “domino” effects of losing a teacher.  We need the staff’s input on possible scenarios, “If this, then …..” See attachment.

Sept 15th Prof Dev Day

*We need to review our cornerstones and compare results of cuts to the impact on these cornerstones.

*We need guidance from the staff to inform the decisions of SLC council and have a detailed plan to present to the district.
DRAFT agenda
8:00 All-staff meeting- Reminders of our success
Review:

  • Where we are right now?
  • API data
  • Cornerstones
  • Why have we been so successful?
  • Discuss scenarios/effects of particular cuts

8:30 Small Groups:
Organized randomly by house, grade level, department
An SLC Council member will lead the conversation

  • What do we value the most based on our cornerstones- what is most important?
  • What must be saved no matter what?
  • What must be gained back in order to fulfill the mission?
  • If we have control over our decisions, what can we give up in trade for keeping teachers?

Return to the large group and share out ideas.

11:00 House Meetings:
Determine the focus of the collective work for the year.  How do we move forward as a House, and how do we continue our efforts toward improving student achievement?

12:00 Lunch-PTSO sponsored

12:30 Content Area Team meetings for the rest of the day

Community outreach will be needed to share results of the decisions, future plans, etc.  Parent and student support for our program is strong.  They are genuinely concerned about our future.
