Hillsdale's talented Jazz Band went to the big Folsom Jazz Festival this weekend and earned 3rd place in their division. Congratulations to director Kevin Gallagher and the entire Jazz Ensemble for their continued success!

Congratulations to Jasmine Nachtigall for winning the prestigious Jefferson Award for community service and for her early admission to Stanford University. Please see the article for more information on this outstanding member of the Hillsdale community.

English teacher and advisor Greg Lance travelled to Washington, D.C. on December 6 to participate in a conference for the 38 schools receiving federal funding for the development of Smaller Learning Communities. This is the second federal grant Hillsdale has received. To date, we been awarded over one million dollars in federal funds to continue our student-centered, teacher-led reforms. Hillsdale is widely regarded as "the paragon" of innovative change for schools transitioning from a large, factory-model to a Smaller Learning Community.

Tim Williams, Jeff Gilbert, Marty Roberts, Cheryl Lawton, Greg Jouriles as well as Mr. Lance wrote this year's federal SLC grant application. Congratulations to the grant writing team and the entire Hillsdale family of teachers and staff!

Congratulations to Christina Hollar for winning the $1000 first place in her age division in the Alliant Credit Union's 2007 National Education Scholarship Contest. Nearly 200 students submitted entries using a variety of media to respond to the questions “What Do I Want to be When I Grow Up?” and “How Can a Computer Enrich My Education?” Christina's entry showcased her musical journey as a trumpet player

Congratulations to Laura Sumser, HHS Class of 2003, for winning the Winslow Prize in Art History! The award is for the best student paper written in an art history course taught at Smith College, which Laura graduated from in May. Well done!

Congratulations to Nicole Mattei-Lince who entered her American Exhibition from last year in the Humane Education Network's high school essay contest. She won in the category "Best Personal and Active Involvement".

 

 

The Hillsdale Shield Yearbook received a number of honors in the Journalism Education Association National Write Off Competition: Denver, Colorado 2007:
