Meeting of Monday, January 10, 2005

Call to Order/Pledge of Allegiance:  The meeting of the General Membership was called to order at 7:40 PM.  Liz Wiegand, President, led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Program: N/A.  This was a business-only meeting.

Approval of Minutes:  The minutes of the December 13, 2004 PTSO general meeting were read and approved by voice vote.  They will be posted on the HHS web site (as are minutes of all general meetings of the PTSO) at http://www.hillsdalehigh.com/organizations/ptsominutes.html.

Treasurer’s Report:  Lois Darbonne presented the treasurer’s report for December 13, 2004-January 10, 2005.  The opening balance was $7914.28.  There were no expenditures during this period.  Total deposits were $60.68 ($60. memberships; $.68 interest).  The ending balance was $7974.96.  The Treasurer’s Report was approved by majority voice vote.

Lois requested we release $55 for hospitality, to cover expenses out of Peggy’s pocket; a motion was made and passed for this.

Principal’s Report:  N/A

President’s Report:  There was no Parents Presidents Council meeting in December; it will meet next week.  Kelly McCLains will be the parent in charge of senior graduation activities; write her at McCLains@sonic.net.  

AKOTT: Janine Wrightson reported on the status, as of January 4th:  They’d decided on a DJ and hired 2 bartenders; there will be service, so dinner should take about 45 minutes.  Leslie Levy & Cheryl Simpson will be sending out more letters.  Athletic teams/parents are lagging w/ baskets.  The next AKOTT planning meeting is Jan 25th at 7:30 PM.   

Faculty Rep:  Sandy reported that all faculty members will be grading senior exhibitions; each has 3 students to grade.  The project involves a faculty mentor; deliverables include a 20-page paper and an oral presentation with Q&A.  Teachers who haven’t done such grading before are getting coaching, now.

Drama Boosters:  Kim Krekel reported.  Auditions were held for Harvey.  Parents are going to stuff envelopes for AKOTT on 1/25.  One-act plays will be presented Jan 26 & 27 (same program will be presented both nights.)

Athletic Boosters:  Janine Wrightson reported.  The Ultimate Tailgate Party is Feb 5, 2005 at Beresford Recreation Center. One hundred dollars per couple buys all the food you can eat and beverages.  There will be a prize for best costume (athletic theme), and a live band.  They will be selling “squares” for the Super Bowl pool; you could win up to $2000.

Basketball quad games (girls and boys, Frosh-Soph and Varsity) are Friday night.

Dance Boosters:  N/A

Membership:  N/A

Student Government:  President Brittany Wrightson reported.  The sophomore class raised $4500 from their Study-a-thon.  This year, a Family & Friends Dance is replacing the traditional Father/Daughter dance; it’s January 22, 6:00 – 9:00 PM.  They’re trying to make it more of a “social” than a dance, with games, ice cream, etc.

Closing:  The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:12 PM.  The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 14, at 7:30 PM; to be confirmed.

(Post script: the February meeting was canceled, due to Valentine’s Day.)
